Hairdressing dynamo, Terrina Brown, owner of Zedz Hair Salon and Day Spa, Palmrya, has been named the 2021 WA/NT Hairdresser of the Year.

“It’s a great honour to win this prestigious award that allows me to represent Western Australia in the national hairdressing arena,” Terrina said.

A hairdresser passionate about her craft, being a savvy business owner and a ‘lead-by-example’ role model in the industry, Terrina ticked all of the judging criteria boxes to win the big awards.

“These awards are the most rigorous in the world, requiring a creative collection and a written submission summarises achievements from March 2019 – March 2021,” she said.

Terrina is a successful salon owner with loyal staff and a full book of regular clients, but on top of this she is the National Creative Director for the Australian chapter of Intercoiffure Mondial, a fellowship of hairdressers internationally.

“This involved me presenting to members from around the world in Paris before Covid and then last year educating for an international event in North America which became a live broadcast once Covid had struck,” she said.

Other big accomplishments includeTerrina’s dedication to environmental sustainability in her salon business, her commitment to apprentices and keeping them enthused about the industry, and being a great boss with long-term team members.

Creatively, the “Black Swan Event” photographic collectionof hair fashion was punk-inspired as a statement of Covid times. Terrina has won or made finalist in a number of creative competitions in a wildly competitive field as well as having Zedz hair fashion photography published in hairdressing media worldwide.

As the Intercoiffure Australia National Creative Director she develops educations, competitions and events to educate and inspire within the greater hairdressing community.  Under her guidance, the State directors created a collection that made the finals of the new Best Collaboration collection in the AHIA Creative Awards as well.

But that’s not all.  Terrina and her team have raised funds for the McKusker Research Foundation helping Alzheimer’s Disease;Ovarian Cancer Research; Prostate Cancer Research; World Vision Sponsor Child in Sri Lanka; and Intercoiffure’s Education for Life educating street kids.

Terrina openedZedz 30 years ago and now has 15 staff.  She is a single Mum, super-organised and a great role model to everyone she meets.
