FAQ

REGULARLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We are excited that people ask us many questions about their hair & beauty. Below are regularly asked questions and answers that have helped our clients in choosing our quality hair, body and beauty services. We have put the information into categories to help make it easier for you to find the information you want. You only need to toggle the headings to see more. If you cannot find the answer to a question you have, please call us or fill in our contact form.

Q: I have heard that you should shampoo your hair twice. Is this true?
A:You heard correctly! The reason we do this is the first shampoo gets rids of all the pollution, dirt and any build-up of hair-care products and the second shampoo activates the specific ingredients that are prescribed for your hair.

Q: Do I apply conditioner to my roots?
A:No. Your roots have enough oil to produce a conditioning effect. You should only apply conditioner to the mid lengths of your hair to the ends. Think from ear level down.

Q: How often should I get my hair cut?
A:It does depend on how your hair grows. Someone with short hair may need to come in every 4 or 5 weeks as they find the style of their hair can lose shape. Other clients may come every 6-8 weeks.

Q: I’m trying to grow my hair. Do I still need to get it trimmed?
A:Absolutely! The longer you leave in between cuts, means that the split ends will travel up the hair shaft and in the end you’ll have to get more cut off. Just ask the stylist to cut the bare minimum off as you are trying to grow it.

Q: I have curly hair. What is the best way to dry it?
A:Apply some curl defining product in your hair, using your fingers to twist around the curl and let it dry naturally. This will give you the best result.

Q: Does GHD stand for anything?
A:GHD stands for Good Hair Day because that’s what you’ll have when you use it.

Q: Is it really necessary to have a hair treatment after my colour?
A:We are strong believers in having a treatment after colour. The concentrated dose goes directly into the cortex of the hair and provides nourishment, strength and shine. Once you start having them, you will find that it’s hard not to.

Q: Is it ok to sleep in a hair masque?
A:Hair masques stop working after 20 minutes so there wouldn’t be any reason to sleep with it in.

Q: What Are Your Facilities Like?
A:Our treatment rooms provide complete client comfort and privacy. Rooms are multifunctional with private steam, shower and spa facilities. All rooms are individually controlled with temperature, light and music adjusted to your requirements. We also offer a couples retreat, allowing two people to receive their treatments together in the same room.

Q:Health & Safety of Equipment?
A:All the equipment used for treatments is sanitised and sterilised to occupational health and safety standards for your peace of mind.

Q:What Do I Wear When Having a Day Spa Treatment?
A:Personal underwear or bathers can be worn during your treatment; disposable underwear is also available. During your treatment you are draped with towels to ensure privacy. Clean and fresh robes or gowns, and slippers are also provided to be worn with some treatments.

Q:What Do I Wear When I Have A Predicure?
A:Please wear open toed shoes or footwear, such as thongs when arriving for a predicure.

Q:Is the Salon a Quiet Place?
A:The Day Spa and Beauty Salon is all about your time. We ask that mobile phones be switched to silent and that voices are kept to a quiet whisper to ensure tranquility for all clients. The Day Spa and Beauty Salon is located upstairs, away from the hair salon to ensure a pleasant and quiet time. We also ask that children under the age of 12 do not enter the day spa, unless they are having a salon service.

Q:Are the Treatment Times Accurate?
A:All published times are set out as a guide only and are inclusive of consultation, treatment and recommendation. Refreshments may be included in some packages, so may vary the times indicated.
Q:Why shouldn’t I use soap to cleanse my face?
A:Soap has a drying effect on the skin, stripping it from its natural moisture. When our skin lacks the proper moisture content, we can look older and not as fresh looking.

Q:I have dark circles under my eyes. Is there any-way to get rid of them?
A:The ‘blue’ that you see are blood vessels. The skin around our eyes is 10x thinner than the skin on our face, therefore the ‘blue’ shows through. Everyone has some degree of ‘dark circles’ and unfortunately there isn’t a lot that can be done about them. The ‘blue’ can be exacerbated by alcohol, lack of sleep and even spicy foods. Under eye concealer is your best option.

Q:Why should I exfoliate?
A:Skin renews itself every 28 days. When this happens, the skin that is on top, dries up and ‘flakes’ away making room for new skin to come to the surface. Exfoliating helps speed up the process by sloughing away the dead skin cells and revealing a fresh complexion. You should exfoliate twice a week to keep the dead cells at bay. Over exfoliating can result in dry skin.

Q:Do I need to use an eye-cream? Can’t I just use my face cream?
A:The face and eye area are extremely different and therefore should be treated with different products. The skin around our eyes doesn’t have any oil glands so it is prone to dryness more so than any other area on face. When our eyes are dry, we see finer lines, which are something no-one wants to see. If your face is oily, and you are moisturising with an oil free product, by putting that under the eyes is only going to dry them out more. Hydration is the key when looking for eye creams.

Q:What are 3 skincare products I should use?
A:A cleanser is a non-negotiable. You will need to get your skin assessed by a professional and choose a cleanser according to your needs. A moisturiser is also needed. This will provide the skin with hydration, even if it is oil-free. Last would be an eye-cream for the delicate skin around your eyes which will hydrate and smooth out any fine lines. The therapists at Zedz are highly trained, and can advise what is the best skin care you can perform, and what products to use.

Q:What are Great Lengths Hair Extensions & where do they originate from?
A:Great Lengths hair extensions are handcrafted in Italy. The hair originates from the temples in India where it has been willingly donated as a sacrifice to the gods of the temple. 100% of Great Lengths hair is ethically sourced via the temple hair auctions, Indian virgin temple hair is highly recommended for the best hair extensions due to the fact that it has never been chemically processed through bleaching and colouring and the texture of the hair matches that of Caucasian markets.

Q:How are Great Lengths applied to the hair?
A:Great Lengths hair extensions are prebonded with a synthesized keratin polymer. Many, if not all hair extension companies have started to claim that they use a keratin bond however Great Lengths was the first company to develop its patented bond and is still the only hair extension bond with functional benefits. The functionality is the Great Lengths bond has the ability to expand and contract with human hair when wet or dry, resulting in no strain or damage on the natural hair.

Great Lengths application technology extends to the innovative application machines used to mould the bond of the hair extension securely and discretely to the natural hair. The Great Lengths Ultrasonic 5000 uses cold fusion technology and techniques which enable flat and round bond formations. Ultrasound vibrations soften the synthesized keratin polymer, this method is quick and versatile.
The Classic 3200 machine uses a gentle thermal method to soften the keratin polymer and a rolling technique which is best for round bond formations. The Classic application machine is the original and still unmatched for neat precise application.

Q:What lengths do Great Lengths come in?
A:Great Lengths measure in centimetres. We have 20cm, 30cm, 40cms, 50cms, 60cms & 70cms.

A:Normally a full head of hair extensions will be anywhere between 100 -150 strands. Every person is different, so will also depend on the complete look you desire.

Q:Can you only get extensions for length?
A:Great Lengths hair extensions can be applied for either volume, length or both! We can tailor the amount of hair extensions applied to achieve the desired result that you are after.

Q:Can I colour my Great Lengths extensions?
A:No. We advise all clients to refresh their colour 48 hour prior to getting Great Lengths extensions applied, as well as having a haircut to tidy up any split ends. This is best done in our salon, as we can colour hair and extensions.

Q:I have heard of Multisonic. What is this?
A:Multisonic is a break-through in the application process for applying Great Lengths hair extensions. Normally, it takes anywhere between 3-5 hours to bond the single strand extensions to your hair, whilst the Multisonic takes 1 hour. The reason is the Multisonic applies 5 strands in one go. This is what’s known as a transfer.

Q:How long does my hair have to be to get Great Length?
A:Your hair must be longer than 10cms long for us to apply Great Lengths to your hair.

Q:I have balayage colour technique in my hair at the moment. Do I have to get rid of that and go for one colour?
A:Not at all! We can put various different colours in your hair. In fact, Great Lengths now have Balayage or Colour Blocking extensions. Unless you have one colour all over, then the majority of people have some sort of variation in colours throughout their hair. We perfectly match the extensions to your own hair.

A:We recommend Great Lengths Hair-care products to all of our clients. There is a Shampoo, Conditioner, Anti-tap water and Applicator as well as a brush.

Q:What is Anti-tap water?
